Turkish plane shot down in Sudan

Sudan: Turkey’s defense ministry said Friday that its plane was shot down upon arrival in conflict-torn Sudan. However, the news of relief is that no one was reported injured. A ministry statement said the Turkish C-130 plane was shot down as it landed at Wadi Sidna airport outside Sudan’s capital Khartoum, Xinhua news agency reported.

The plane landed safely, there were no reports of injuries to any crew members, and the plane was parked for inspection, the statement said. Turkey has been carrying out an evacuation operation for its citizens in Sudan since last Sunday, where fierce fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF).

The Sudanese military accused the RSF of opening fire on the Turkish evacuation aircraft, while the RSF denied firing on the aircraft.
